The length of time each patient must wait to drive after LASIK surgery will vary based on the individual. However, most people are given their doctor’s approval to drive as soon as the day after surgery. A post-op exam will be performed the day after surgery.
Can I drive after laser surgery?
After having lasik or lasek surgery, legally you aren’t allowed to drive until you’ve been given the all clear by your ophthalmic surgeon. You will be given a follow-up appointment for the day after your procedure, so again you’ll need to either ask a friend to drop you off, or else take a taxi or public transport.
Can I drive the morning after LASIK?
You should not drive the day of your procedure.
However, you can resume driving after LASIK once you can see well enough to do so. This may be the very next day after your surgery!

Everyone heals differently, but most people resume normal activities immediately following treatment, although you’ll need to have someone drive you home after your procedure. For the next few days your eyes may be red, a little scratchy and sensitive to light.

Generally speaking, you should wait at least 24 hours after LASIK before washing your face. This is the same guideline that we give our patients for showering. As with showering, you need to avoid getting soap and water in your eyes for a minimum of several days.

On the fourth or fifth day after your procedure, you can start small and slow. Go for a walk, use the elliptical machine, begin some low-intensity strength training with light weights. Avoid anything high-intensity (like boxing) or anything that will make you sweat a lot (like hot yoga).

You will be given short-term eye drops to use at home for a few weeks after the laser procedure. We will see you in clinic again after a few weeks to check the pressure in the eyes has stabilised and ensure that the holes made are working correctly.

Can I sleep on my side after LASIK?
At bedtime, wear your eye shield for at least one week if you sleep on your back or side, and two weeks if you sleep on your stomach. This will prevent you from rubbing your eyes during asleep. In terms of activity, light exercise is permissible, but excessive workouts should be avoided for at least five days.
How do you get rid of eye boogers after LASIK?
If you have any crustiness on your lashes from the artificial tears, they are best cleaned with careful use of a clean washcloth soaked in warm water. Do not go swimming, use a hot tub, spa or whirlpool for at least 10 days to reduce the risk of infection.
Can I go blind from LASIK?
